Description of the initiative

The workshop aims to introduce the students to the potential and integration IoT in the construction sector (new functions of building envelope components, sensor integration, data analysis and processing, adaptive comfort and predictive analysis, new interfaces for cognitive building).

Development modalities Some communications are planned but the main activity will be of a laboratory nature (learning by doing). Workshop themes and objectives
The primary objective of the workshop is to identify and design new functionalities of building systems and components with particular attention to the enclosure that must be transformed from a separating element into a sensor / actuator. Activities include: - the development of new system functions for specific requests and / or assigned performance program; - definition of problems / criticalities and boundary conditions; - coding of the identified solution (implementation in an IoT system) and data analysis for system validation; - the creation and / or implementation of a digital model. Through this activity, multidisciplinary learning is promoted and the development and reinforcement of the skills of the construction engineer is promoted. All students enrolled in the Politecnico di Milano Degree Courses and those enrolled in the Master's Degree programs of the AUIC School, engineering area, will be able to participate in the Workshop. No specific basic knowledge is required. At the end of the Workshop the students will have to produce a graphic (schematic design) and digital paper. Continuous presence and use of a PC by the student is required. During the workshop activities the students will be introduced to the use of the following tools: Rhinoceros (version 5 or more) and Grasshopper (download is recommended before the start of the workshop).
