Description of the initiative

Are you interested in the Circular Economy and the reduction of CO2 emissions? Are you interested in developing projects that use ecological and sustainable materials in collaboration with a corporate company? This initiative challenges the participants to develop an original concept for the ‘vertical green' category within the Leroy Merlin products catalogue.Young designers are asked to create innovative and sustainable solutions and study their possible communication and positioning strategy on a preset brief.

The Workshop challenges the participants' creativity towards imagining scenarios and design solutions: young designers will be invited to propose creative and sustainable solutions to reduce the environmental impact of products selected from Leroy Merlin's catalogue through a set brief. The experience is part of a broader research project aiming to identify products and materials that satisfy environmental impact reduction, UX, expressive-sensorial qualities, and production process efficiency. Within this frame, research on materials has been conducted that identified three categories: non-conventional (historically used and known), conventional (innovative but usable), and emergent (experimental stage). In parallel, digital marketing and social listening tools have been employed to support the market analysis and provide the basis for designing the communication positioning strategy of the identified solutions and the messages needed to make audiences understand the benefits of the proposed innovations.
The research results will be provided to the students to be used as a starting point for the design activity.
