Description of the initiative
The proposed initiative refers to the activation of a design workshop aimed at learning about the work of Gio Ponti concerning the geometric and chromatic studies of the ceramic coverings made in the 1960s for the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento. These studies have recently been chosen by Matteo Ragni, Art Director of PdiPigna, for a new collection of notebooks celebrating Italian beauty, combining heritage and contemporary spirit. With the same aim of combining tradition and modernity, the students are asked to propose new contemporary patterns starting from the reading and reinterpretation, through the lens of young future designers, of the graphic styles that characterise the environment in which they live, characterised by the specific cultural and geographical context of reference.
The final objective is the graphic design of new patterns to be applied on products of the "PdiPigna" line, the "stationary" line linked to the world of design by Cartiere Paolo Pigna.
The workshop is divided into two phases: an initial research phase concerning the contextualisation, definition and visualisation (through project moods) of possible graphic interpretations and a design phase aimed at the design of graphic patterns capable of reinterpreting the work of Giò Ponti with subsequent application on the indicated supports (notebook and stationary).
At the end of the workshop, the faculty and Cartiere Paolo Pigna will select the graphic patterns most in line with the design brief and the company values, which will then be promoted through social campaigns or dedicated exhibitions.
