Description of the initiative
This course aims at providing knowledge of the Matlab/Simulink environment, focusing on control systems analysis and design. Thus, we will be mostly exploring the Control Systems Toolbox, using examples of practical application, for which both modelling and control systems design will be explored.
To validate the exam, students will be asked to work in groups (2/3 students per group) and work on a project. To do this, students will be given the description of a control problem based on a real application domain, which they will have to analyse following the same steps seen during the course (model definition, simulator implementation, controller design and implementation, and closed-loop performance evaluation). Each group will be asked to hand in a short report on the project, together with the Matlab/Simulink code.

Note
This course aims at providing knowledge of the Matlab/Simulink environment, focusing on control systems analysis and design.
The course participants will gain competences that will be useful both in view of more advanced control systems courses in the Bachelor and Master of Science in Control and Automation Engineering, and in professional activities in the fields of Automation and Control Systems Design.
