Description of the initiative

International Workshop "redefining and designing for affordability in the context for the 21st century"

in February 2019 will be held in Toronto the eight International Workshop organized by the Institute Without Boundaries at George Brown College in partnership of many Schools around the world including Politecnico di Milano's School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering (AUIC) and School of Design.The workshop will take place at George Brown College in Toronto, Canada, from 19th of February 2019 and will focus on the theme about defining the Toronto region to Itself and the world. With development of the main theme, the seminar will be enriched by a series of discussions and lectures.The evaluation of the curriculum and requirements will eventually be integrated, according to the Commission, by an in-depth interview to better assess the suitability of the candidate for participation in the experience project proposal.The estimated cost for the workshop participation is about 1425,00 euro (It includes: intercontinental flights tickets, 8 overnights in hotel in rooms for 4 people - including breakfast, transfers from / to the airport, participation at the workshop, excursions to the area of Niagara, 5 lunches and more). The cost will be confirmed at the time of the final payment due to the Euro-Canadian Dollar exchange rate, airport taxes/fuel surcharges and the number of participants.

Workshop OutcomesThe students will have the opportunity to learn new skills and have the following opportunitiesduring the workshop events:
  • working on timely social topics and the relationship of these to architecture and city building
  • how architects can lead social change through systems thinking
  • skills working in an interdisciplinary team including engineers, urban planners, landscape, architects, graphic designers, etc.
  • work in a collaborative manner with students of many different design disciplines
  • establishing relationships for future projects
