Description of the initiative
By practical applications (mapathons), the aim of the course is to prove the importance of collaborative mapping in humanitarian projects.
The course avails itself of the collaboration of international experts and associations like YouthMappers (http://www.youthmappers.org), OpenStreetMap (https://www.openstreetmap.org), Humanitarian OpenStreetMap (HOT, www.hotosm.org), Missing Maps (https://www.missingmaps.org) and the Geospatial Information Section of the United Nations (http://www.un.org/Depts/Cartographic/english/htmain.htm).
The specific activities will be discussed and planned with the students at the beginning of the course.
Students will need just their laptops and, in case of sessions aimed at data collection, smartphones.
They will receive assignments relevant the collaborative mapping, work will be done either individually or in group.
The mapping activity will be verified and, in case of good results, approved.
