Description of the initiative

Città Bene Comune. Reading, discussing, storytelling about the city is a cutting-edge learning way aiming to promote reading, discussing and critical thinking about issues of the city, the territory, the landscape and the relevant design cultures.

How this cutting-edge learning is organised
  1. Participating in four meetings with the authors of four recent books on the themes indicated.
  2. Discussing with an expert panel of discussants.
  3. Reading one of the four publications (chosen by students).
  4. Writing a short critical essay of 6,000 to 8,000 characters (spaces included) by the end of June.
About which books, which authors and with which discussants
The first is on Tuesday 7th May 2019, at 6:00 p.m., with Ilaria Agostini and Enzo Scandurra, authors of Miserie e splendori dell'urbanistica (DeriveApprodi, 2018). The discussants will be Alberto Magnaghi (Professor Emeritus of Urban And Regional Planning of the Università degli Studi di Firenze and co-founder of the Società dei Territorialisti), Maurizio Tira (Full Professor of Urban And Regional Planning, Rector of the Università degli Studi di Brescia and President of the Società Italiana degli Urbanisti), Graziella Tonon (former Full Professor of Urban Design and Landscape of the Politecnico di Milano, co-founder and member of the Scientific Board of Archivio Piero Bottoni).
The following is on Tuesday 14th May 2019, at 6:00 p.m., with Patrizia Gabellini and her publication Le mutazioni dell'urbanistica. Principi, tecniche, competenze (Carocci, 2018), a book that will be discussed by Franco Farinelli (former full professor of Geography at the Università di Bologna and President of Associazione dei Geografi Italiani), Pier Carlo Palermo (former Full Professor of Urban And Regional Planning of the Politecnico di Milano, former Head of the Department of Architecture and Planning and of the School for Architecture and Society of the same University).
On Tuesday 21st May 2019, at 6:00 p.m., Città e democrazia. Per una critica delle parole e delle cose (Donzelli, 2018) by Carlo Olmo will be discussed by Cristina Bianchetti (Full Professor of Urban Design And Landscape of the Politecnico di Torino, co-ordinator of the Architecture area for VQR 2011-2014), Marco Biraghi (Full Professor of History of Architecture of Politecnico di Milano and President of GIZMO, architecture research and review team) and Giampaolo Nuvolati (Full Professor of Sociology of the Università degli Studi di Milano Bicocca and Head of the Department of Sociology and Social Research of the same University).
Finally, on Tuesday 28th May 2019, at 6:00 p.m., Gabriele Pasqui, author of La città, i saperi, le pratiche. Pensare la città plurale (Donzelli, 2018), will discuss with Stefano Boeri (architect, town planner, Full Professor of Urban Design and Landscape of the Politecnico di Milano), Laura Fregolent (Full Professor of Urban and Regional Planning of the Università IUAV di Venezia, co-director of the review "Archivio di Studi Urbani e Regionali"), Arturo Lanzani (Full Professor of Urban and Regional Planning of the Politecnico di Milano) and Giancarlo Paba (former Full Professor of Urban and Regional Planning of the Università di Firenze, President of the Fondazione Giovanni Michelucci of Fiesole).
