Description of the initiative

The aim of the course is to provide students with some basic notions on BIM through introductory lessons on the fundamental aspects of BIM technology and on the potential of this type of software. In summary, the topics covered during the lessons will be the following:

  • BIM technology and software;
  • digital parametric objects;
  • the concept of LOD in BIM;
  • the dimensions of BIM;
  • the level of maturity of BIM;
  • the use of BIM technology in the different phases of the project.
Another aim of the course is to illustrate the basic tools of the BIM environment by carrying out a project during the lab sessions, simulating the design of a simple building using the Autodesk Revit 2019 software. The simulation will be performed under the hypothesis that professionals involved in the architectural and structural design are working on separate BIM models using a common software platform.
