Description of the initiative

The initiative intends to challenge participants' ability to develop original concepts for Special Edition cookie packaging. Young designers are requested to create innovative and sustainable solutions in accordance with a predetermined brief.

Initiative Scope
The goal is to have emotional and innovative structural packaging that consumers are proud to own, show off and share on social media. The packaging will need to be designed for an iconic cookie of the Barilla brand: PAN DI STELLE.
It is common to see in the market that Limited Editions are developed in collaboration with other brands based on special graphics or communication. However, Pan di Stelle wants to develop an independent unique design that could become an icon or part of a collection. The new packaging solutions need to address the Italian Christmas atmosphere to offer a magical experience.
Explore:
  • The idea of structural packaging limited edition and the concept of engaging structural packaging.
  • The concept of Italian Xmas through packaging experience.
Develop:
  • Concepts of structural packaging embedding the brand values for a unique and long-lasting experience.
  • Packaging ideas that are engineered and developed considering as much as possible manufacturing constraints/feasibility
You can focus on any aspect of the packaging, including usage, reuse, entertainment, emotions, shape, materials, multi-sensorial, etc. Great importance will be given to those solutions that are able to offer additional functions, "instagrammability" and/or values by driving consumer engagement and building a stronger emotional connection with the brand.

Materials & Tech:
You are free to suggest innovative materials if considered appropriate for the project scope, considering important aspects of sustainability (as well as consumer perception) and recyclability.

Channel:
Retail (GDO) or Online distribution. The choice will be up to the students, and the developments will need to consider the selected channel's challenges/ opportunities. Example: At-home experience vs. In-store stand-out.
