Description of the initiative

Upon completion of the training course in question, a student who has successfully followed the course will present the following knowledge and application skills:

Knowledge
  • Know how to describe the various types of applications for the creation and use of 3D digital content, as well as the enabling technologies for each of them.
  • Know how to describe the process for the realization of a mixed prototype from a scan: physical prototype preparation, scanning (structured light), mesh reconstruction, segmentation, UV mapping and registration with respect to the global reference system.
  • Know how to describe the elements that can be used in digital applications based on 3D models (virtual prototype, 3D models, texture, image, animated GIF) and the related parameters that affect the performance of the applications (polycount, texture resolution and rendering, engine rendering, latency, color rendering, frames per second).
Application skills
  • Know how to scan an object using structured light technology, as well as its subsequent processing to obtain a 3D model.
  • Know how to segment a digital geometric model (of surfaces) deriving from scanning.
  • Know how to create different design variants using both graphic rendering tools (blender) and prototyping tools with augmented reality (SPARK).
  • Know how to create 2D digital content for 3D models.
  • Know how to prepare a model that can be used on modeling software and software for engineering simulations.
  • Know how to create a 3D animation using the elements prepared during the course and others downloaded from the internet.
