Description of the initiative
Africa Designs Futures is a WIKIAfrica Education Initiative in collaboration with Moleskine Foundation. When we talk about design, we always mean projections towards the future, but mostly the visions are produced by countries that through their projects, their technologies, and their media, imprint their direction as the only way of accreditation, which others must necessarily follow.Climate change, transcontinental migration, and other phenomena on a global scale show that physical maps cannot necessarily coincide with political geography yet, and that the Western paradigms of the future are produced from only one speculative view, while there are many possible alternatives presents capable of foreshadowing other futures for the planet and humanity. The call for actions Africa Designs Futures, which the Design School of the Politecnico di Milano is launching, aims to invite African speaking students (able to speak and write at least one language of that continent) to extrapolate - from design, architecture, engineering, art, fashion, technology, media, etc. - works, protagonists, institutions, awards, competitions, to explore and explain what futures the African continent is exploring and offering to the world. The students, who wish to participate, will attend in the month of February 4 lessons (online, 2 hours each) as Wiki tutorials and then participate in a workshop in March (dates to be confirmed) where they will explore some topics related to the theme, they will write lemmas and build thematic maps. The results will be included as articles on the Wikipedia platform.
