The Diploma Supplement, also called DS, accompanies the official qualification awarded on completion of a programme at a university or institution of higher education. The DS describes the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were successfully completed by the student in a standardized model in 8 points, which was developed on the initiative of the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO.
The Diploma Supplement was introduced in the Italian university system by the Ministerial Decree 509 of 1999, Article 11, paragraph 8, and maintained in force by Ministerial Decree No. 270 of 2004 in the same article and paragraph. The Ministerial Decree of 28 December 2010 published in Official Gazette No. 3 dated 5 January 2011, the Minister replaces the term certificate, used in Article. 11, paragraph 8, of the decree of 3 November 1999, n. 509, and subsequent modifications to it, integrative and connected on the subject, with the phrase information report.
The Decree of 5 February 2013 n. 201 was issued, as revision of the guidelines for the compilation. This Decree was necessary to adapt the guidelines for the compilation of the model to those shared at European level, to give directions consistent with universities in the compilation and release of the document and for compliance with the criteria defined by the Decree on self-assessment, the initial and periodic accreditation and about evaluation (DM 30 January 2013, n. 47).
