A strategic partnership between the Politecnico di Milano and Eni

Framework agreement renewed for circular economy, energy transition and digitalisation

The Politecnico di Milano and Eni are inaugurating a new strategic partnership in scientific research, founded on innovation and development with regards to circular economy, digitalisation and the transition towards an increasingly sustainable energy system.

The renewal of the framework agreement has just been signed, an agreement which since 2008 has ensured investments from Eni in research activities worth around 40 million euros, including 16 patents in which there are Politecnico inventors. A formidable partnership which, uniting the needs expressed by the Industry and the opportunities offered by the University, is capable of generating a virtuous cycle and bringing value to scientific research as a service to the country and its industrial development.

The areas under the effect of the agreement are three: circular economy, meaning the sustainability of production processes, resource optimisation and waste minimisation; energy transition, through the study of sector-specific innovative technologies and the promotion of natural gas use; digitalisation, which translates into operative excellence with regards to safety and environmental protection.

The Politecnico is also acting partner in the planning and realisation of the 2nd level Specialising Master degree course in Energy Innovation.  This is an excellent interdisciplinary educational path which will allow 25 young MSc graduates in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry to learn the necessary know-how to operate in the energy sector, characterised by constant and significant innovative trends. Students will be offered a higher education apprenticeship and research contract which will last 12 months, and those who are particularly successful in obtaining the qualification will be offered an employment contract within the company.
