Honorary Master’s Degree upon Mark Sarkisian

A career dedicated to developing innovative structural engineering solutions

The Politecnico di Milano awarded Mark Sarkisian an Honorary Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. Mark Sarkisian is a structural engineer, partner of the architectural, urban planning and engineering firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).

Sarkisian is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the application of structural optimization, evolutionary principles and biomimetics to the design of tall and super-tall buildings. During his over-thirty-year career he has designed many major buildings in the USA, China and Middle East, including the Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai (China); the US Embassy in Beijing (China); the Al Hamra Fidrous Tower in Kuwait City (Kuwait); and the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland (California).

During the ceremony to confer the Honorary Master’s Degree, Sarkisian gave the keynote lecture with the title "Engineering as Art".
