New framework agreement between Politecnico di Bari, Politecnico di Milano and PoliHub

A North-South alliance to support the creation of new technology companies

The Politecnico di Bari, the Politecnico di Milano and PoliHub, the Innovation Park & Startup Accelerator of the Politecnico di Milano, managed by the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, have signed a three-year, renewable framework agreement proposing a north-south alliance to support economic and social development processes in Italy by supporting the creation of new technological enterprises.

It is in the common interest of our universities to develop forms of collaboration in the context of the university's Third mission, encouraging the creation of new technological enterprises capable of triggering innovation processes in the regions.

With this agreement, we will promote initiatives to support the transfer of research results and the creation of new high-tech companies, providing support for prototyping, business model development, market validation and the search for funding.

Ferruccio Resta, Rector of Politecnico di Milano, states:

Contributing to the creation of a national innovation infrastructure that enhances collaboration between universities and creates development hubs at national level is crucial. This is how the Politecnico di Milano and the Politecnico di Bari combine skills and approaches to business creation that draw value from the relationship with the local area and from the impetus generated by new ideas born in the context of research. These initiatives will be able to benefit from the long-standing experience of our incubator PoliHub.

In the start-up phase of the collaboration, PoliMi and PoliHub, which boast an undoubted international recognition, will support the Politecnico di Bari in the development of structures and tools for the implementation and management of a Business Incubator. At the same time, ad hoc financial instruments to support university spin-offs will be identified and specially selected technology start-ups.

This is how the Rector of Bari Politecnico, Francesco Cupertino, put it:

The Italian university system has built up years of research that are available to the country. The renewed spirit of cooperation between universities, highlighted by this agreement, is good news for everyone. In this sense, the agreement with the Politecnico di Milano and the PoliHub Incubator represents an important component in the technology transfer activities of the Politecnico di Bari towards our companies. It also offers our researchers and students new opportunities for professional success. By sharing skills, processes and relationships, we all become more efficient and effective in transforming research into innovation, and innovation into development for our regions.

On the comments made by the two rectors, Andrea Sianesi, President of PoliHub adds:

PoliHub's mission is to support the birth of deep tech startups that generate value for society and the economy towards a model of sustainable progress, thanks to science and technology and building on the Politecnico di Milano ecosystem. This is why we are proud to be able to collaborate with the Politecnico di Milano and the Politecnico di Bari on the development of new high-tech companies. This alliance represents value for the territory and an enrichment for our innovation ecosystem in terms of skills, synergies and know-how.
