Unimi-Polimi Laurea Magistrale in Bioinformatics for Computational Genomics
The first students to graduate
Roberto Albanese, Carlo Cipriani, Francesco Gazzo and Chiara Paleni are the first four graduates of the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) in Bioinformatics for Computational Genomics, organised in collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Milano and the Politecnico di Milano.
The two-year course of study, taught in English, aims to train professionals with advanced computing and engineering skills necessary for the organisation and analysis of genomic data obtained through the study of cellular, molecular, genetic and biochemical biology.
It is the first in Italy and one of the very few in Europe, and the world to train data scientists with a truly multidisciplinary profile, who are increasingly in demand in the job market. They will be able to make the best use of the most advanced information technologies and machine learning to manage and analyse the "big data" produced by modern biotechnology. They will, among other things, be able to contribute to precision medicine, i.e. the determination of individualised treatments based on the genetic profile of patients
explained Marco Masseroli, Professor of Bioinformatics at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering at the Politecnico di Milano and deputy coordinator of the course.
