The TOL consists of 65 multiple choice questions and is divided into two parts:
- TEST: to test your knowledge of logic, mathematics, statistics, physics and your verbal comprehension abilities
- TENG (Test of English): to verify your knowledge of English
The test questions are formulated taking into account the ministerial programs for secondary schools. You can see the specific topics of the test and the number of questions for each section in content details.
The TOL takes place using personal computers in the IT-equipped lecture theatres of the various Politecnico Campuses, except for Mantova.
The minimum level of English language knowledge required - verified in the test - corresponds to the medium/low (B1) level of the CEF (Common European Framework). You must take the English section of the TOL even if you are already in possession of an external certification attesting your knowledge of English. For further details, check here.
Access to the test
To access the virtual area in which the test will take place, you must use the access credentials to Online Services of the Politecnico (person code and password). If necessary, you can recover them from www.polimi.it/servizionline > Assistenza autenticazione > Recupero credenziali [Authentication support > Recover credentials].
The remote test cannot, on the other hand, be accessed using the SPID credentials.
What do you need to take the test?
To take the test, you need to have two different devices and to have a stable data network with which to access the internet.
- desktop or laptop computer with webcam and microphone (internal or external); (Windows 10,8,7 or Mac OS X 10.10 or superior operating system and administrator privileges of the computer to be able to install the necessary software). It is not permitted to take the test by tablet or smartphone.
- Smartphone or Tablet: the ZOOM programme must be installed on this device (you do not have to create a personal account) to be able to carry out the recognition and control operations by the virtual classroom board.
Remember to have battery chargers to hand for the two devices.
In addition, you must take the test in a quiet room, not occupied by other persons when taking the test, with adequate lighting.
You can keep on your desk two completely blank sheets and a pen for making calculations.
Finally, we recommend that you memorise the credentials in case you have to carry out the access again.

Check carefully the start time of the test for which you are registered, indicated on the registration receipt.
Once admitted to the virtual classroom of the test and after the recognition operations, you may no longer leave your workstation and you must always remain positioned in front of your webcam with your device connected to Zoom while you wait for the test to start.
