Eligibility

A Bachelor Degree in Engineering (electrical, energy, environmental, industrial, mechanical) or in a related field. A Science Degree (Physics, Chemistry or similar) will be evaluated case by case.
GRE test (Graduate Record Examination) is not mandatory but strongly recommended: it can be provided through ETS DI code 6939 or by sending a scanned copy to Welcome Desk Piacenza (welcome.piacenza@polimi.it) within the last day of the application period.

Mission and goals

The Master of Science programme in Renewables and Environmental Sustainability (RES) is taught in English and offers a broad overview of the various technical issues related to energy and the environment. This special programme aims to prepare technicians capable of following and actively directing technological advances, operating effectively in a competitive and multi-disciplinary industrial context.

Subjects

1st year

Advanced Mathematical methods, Energy Systems or Energy and Environmental Technologies for Building Systems, Fundamentals of Chemical Processes for Energy and Environment, Electric Conversion of Renewable Energy Sources, Renewable Energy and Low-Carbon Technologies, Fluid Machines for Low-Carbon Technologies, Smart Grids and Regulation for Renewable Energy Sources.

2nd year

Industrial Ecology, Air Pollution and Control Engineering, Bio-Energy and Waste-to-Energy Technologies, Energy and Environmental Technologies for Building Systems (if not taken in 1st year), Managing Power Plant Projects.
Depending on the submitted study plan, one optional course might be attended in Milan (at either campus Bovisa or Leonardo), chosen from the programmes in Energy Engineering or Environmental Engineering.

Career opportunities

Graduates find employment in numerous industrial sectors, including industries producing and distributing energy, thermal, thermal-electric, air-conditioning and refrigeration plant design and management companies, energy management in companies or bodies with production objectives which may be far-removed energy. A Master of Science Engineer has openings in research and development as well as in activities related to the feasibility study and design of large-scale plant, innovative processes and development of technologically advanced machines and components.
