MSc in Biomedical Engineering

The Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering is an advanced academic program designed to provide high-level scientific and technological skills to address current and emerging challenges in healthcare and the Life Sciences. The program integrates engineering principles with medical and biological disciplines, preparing graduates to design, develop, and evaluate innovative technologies for disease prevention, diagnosis, therapy, and rehabilitation.

Admission to the program is open to students holding a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent qualification, with adequate preparation in fundamental and core engineering disciplines.

Graduates in Engineering from Politecnico di Milano: admission is regulated according to criteria defined in the Academic Regulations, based on the student’s educational background and curricular requirements.

Graduates in Engineering from other Italian universities: admission requires verification of curricular requirements and individual academic preparation.

Applicants holding a foreign academic qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree may apply, provided they have an adequate background in fundamental engineering subjects and disciplines relevant to Biomedical Engineering.

Admission is subject to an Eligibility evaluation of the applicant’s previous academic career, carried out according to the procedures and criteria established by Politecnico di Milano.

Admission with a foreign qualification 

The Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering offers an advanced and specialized education in the main areas of bioengineering. The program is structured to develop strong analytical, design, and research skills, with a strong focus on technological innovation.

Key topics include: Biomaterials and tissue engineering, Advanced biomechanics, Cellular and molecular bioengineering, Medical devices and biomedical instrumentation, Biomedical imaging and biological signals, Computational modeling and simulation, Technologies for regenerative and personalized medicine.

The program is organized into several specialized tracks, allowing students to tailor their education according to their scientific interests and career goals: Biomechanics and Biomaterials; Biotechnologies, Cells, and Tissues; Electronic Technologies; Information Bioengineering; Clinical Engineering (limited enrollment; reserved for students holding an Italian Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering).

Graduates of the Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering acquire advanced skills that enable employment in highly qualified professional environments or continuation toward an academic career.

Graduates may work in biomedical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries, medical device design and development, hospitals and healthcare facilities (clinical engineering), research and development in public and private institutions, technical and regulatory consulting, advanced service companies in the healthcare sector.

After graduation, students may enroll in second-level university Master’s programs, pursue a PhD, take the State Examination to qualify as a professional engineer.
