Opening of “Contemporary Quirinale”, curated by Cristina Mazzantini

Contemporary art arrives at Quirinale Palace. Several Politecnico di Milano alumni among design works

The “Contemporary Quirinale” project was inaugurated in the presence of the  President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, a keen supporter of the project.

Cristina Mazzantini, Professor of Preservation at the Politecnico di Milano, curated all stages of the initiative, from a scientific point of view, and artistically, selecting all the artists and works.

The collection of art works and design objects has found a home in the courtyards, salons and gardens of the Quirinale. The artistic heritage of the “House of the Italians” has been enriched and updated with this significant input of contemporary Italian art, opening itself up to artists who have enlivened the Republic.

37 works from leading artists and 33 objects created by Italian designers and produced by Italian companies  have been placed in the Palace which hosts the Presidency of the Republic.

The works have been introduced into the buildings and gardens in a timely and considered manner, fully respecting the location and harmoniously bringing together artistic, artisanal and industrial production.

The objective was to make this both an inspiring location and a way to represent what our country has created through its masters, geniuses and their creativity, planning ability and production capacity over these 70 years of the Republic.

Many of the works on show have been designed by alumni from the Politecnico di Milano:

All the works of art have been provided free of charge; the design objects have been donated by the manufacturers.
