Librarians from the Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University visit BCL

A delegation from Lyon aimed at learning how the Politecnico di Milano’s Library System works

A delegation of the University Libraries from Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University spent a day at the Politecnico di Milano to learn about our University Library System and how it works. The Archive and Library System personnel showed their French colleagues what activities and services we had to offer, during a fruitful exchange of ideas and points of view about issues regarding library science.

A key moment was their visit to the Leonardo Campus Library. After walking through the inspiring Architecture Department, designed by Vittoriano Viganò, our guests then entered the library, designed in the early Sixties by Gio Ponti the flooring and staircases of which stand out with their classic multi-coloured marble and granite surfaces. While in the recently redecorated sections they were able to admire the famous Guernica mural created in 1968 by students and now a true symbol of its hall. The guests also got to know the study areas, the open-shelf book distribution, our collection desk and specialised reference rooms. Soon the restructuring process will also begin for the areas at basement level.
