Machine Design
This research area is particularly involved in advanced design methods and fitness for purpose of mechanical components. This activities have relevant contracts and grants from industry and European Union. As regards advanced design methods the most important results obtained regards the definition of multiaxial low and high cycle fatigue prediction criteria, the assessment of structural integrity of cracked elements, the prediction of fatigue life of polymer matrix composite material (short and fibre), the definition of approaches to predict the influence of shot peening on fatigue strength of mechanical components. As practical applications of these advanced assessment and design methods mechanical components (gears, pressure vessel) and helicopter components were considered.
