The Mathematics Education Project started in 2003 by the Laboratorio Didattico FDS (Formazione Didattica Sperimentazione matematica) of the Department of Mathematics. Its mission includes the development of teaching techniques, research and services consistent with the broader missions of the Department of Mathematics and the Politecnico di Milano in the same areas. The goals of the Mathematics Education Project are: Develop and enhance high school teachers’ contents knowledge and instructional strategies aligned with the engineering studies; Improve the mathematical achievement of high school students through the development of partnerships between the Direzione Generale Scolastica della Lombardia and the Politecnico di Milano; Provide and disseminate accessible mathematics support to facilitate the transition from preuniversity mathematics to first year undergraduate programs; Promote the development of mathematical skills and understanding, particularly through enrichment and extension activities beyond the school curriculum; Help teachers and students share in the excitement of mathematics and understand the enormous range and importance of its applications and its vital contribution to shaping the everyday world; Promote and disseminate the mathematical culture in broader sense in the society specially underlining its connection with other subjects (arts, architecture, literature, …).
