Historical Masonry Structures: Damage and Diagnosis
The research line Historical Masonry Structures: Damage and Diagnosis deals with preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings. This aim can be reached through diagnosis of the state of damage and control of the effectiveness of the repair techniques. On-site non destructive and laboratory tests are developed. The relevant deterioration processes are studied both experimentally and a numerically. Durability tests, long term and pseudo-creep tests are carried out on historic and purposely built brick and stone masonry panels. Analytical models, implemented in finite element codes, and probabilistic models are developed for the interpretation of the experimental data and for the prediction of the service life prediction.
