In the Biomechanics research line both basic and applied subjects in the fields of biomechanics and biomaterials are investigated through an integration of mathematical modelling and experimental testing. Main topics are: the evaluation and design of medical devices in cardiovascular, dental, orthopaedic, spinal and surgical reconstructive fields; the optimisation of surgical procedures for the cardiovascular system; micro fluidics; the study of advanced graded ceramics, shape memory alloys for medical applications, soft tissues such as bone and cartilage and blood vessels; the development of bioreactors for articular cartilage tissue engineering; and the study of biomachines and life support systems.
