Chemical Engineering: Modeling, Simulation and Control

Strong research efforts have been devoted since the 1960-70 to the mathematical modeling of process units. Modeling and simulation of chemical reactors and distillation columns were only the first steps towards the development of process simulators, optimization, dynamics and control of process units. Moving from these premises, the research activity is currently organized into two major research lines. Namely, the first line is more related to chemical reaction engineering and the kinetics of complex reacting systems (pyrolysis and combustion) whilst the second line is related to the modeling, control and supervision of systems and process units with particular attention to the safety analysis of industrial processes.
