Biomaterials and Functionalization treatments

Research activities of Prof. Cigada group are focussed on two major topics: “Biomaterials, biological behaviour and clinical applications”, the more consolidated research line, and “Surface functionalization treatments and nanotechnologies”, a more recent interest. Between 2003 and 2006, research activities of the group were directed to the study and development of new materials and surface treatments for biomedical applications. More recently a new research line, dedicated to the functionalization of materials by means of nanotechnologies for applications in design, textiles and architecture (i.e. aesthetic, photo-catalytic, antipollution, self-cleaning treatments for metals and polymers, comfort design for textile, et cetera) was undertaken. This research activity, derived from the experiences acquired in the field of biomaterials, mostly results in technology transfer of research results to the cited fields.
