Energy & Environment Engineering

The research line is oriented to the basic and applied aspects of the environmental quality and comfort (indoor and outdoor) in conjunction with a rational use of energy and its economical-social impact. The research line is organized in 3 topics: 1 Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration: Research concerns a better control of the indoor environment and of the presence of contaminants with modern air conditioning systems, clean room for micro-electronics and pharmaceutics productive plants and for bio-research labs. 2 Buildings’ Environment and Energy Systems: Current research aims at supplying basic knowledge, measurement and operating tools for building envelope components, building service systems and indoor microclimate analysis and control, together with rational use of energy and comfort achievement, tri-generation systems, solar energy use. Acoustics and cultural heritage preservation techniques are part of the research topic. 3 Environment & Energy needs and end-uses: Research concerns the environmental impact of energy use and conversion in urban areas, the planning and management of the energy technologies at different spatial levels (urban, regional, national and global ). In this sector the goals are: increasing efficiency, safety and reliability, reducing environmental impact, and improving the social benefit.
