Applied Economics

This research line is organised into three main research groups: - Industrial and Innovation Economics; - International Trade, Monetary and Financial Macroeconomics, and Econometrics; - Regional and Urban Economics. The three groups cover a high number of cross-thematic fields, taking advantage of a strong cross-fertilisation of ideas and synergies in their research outputs, as well as of the methodological contributions from econometric research: industrial, regional and international competitiveness, productivity of firms, regions and nations; innovation diffusion, knowledge creation, start-ups and their effects on the productivity of firms, regions and countries; internationalisation of firms, regions and countries, with particular emphasis on the different forms of internationalisations (FDI, trade, international fragmentation of production); role of central banks in determining financial stability; new forms of regulations in public sectors; development of ICTs, advanced technologies and their impact on firms’ and regional competitiveness; telecommunications and public utilities reforms; large project assessments. The Department hosts the managing editorial team of an international journal in regional and urban economics (the Italian journal of Regional Science), a unique journal in this field in Italy.
