The aim of the laboratory is a critical and systematic research on the historical buildings and the landscape. Three are the main important branches of the laboratory: - the analysis and the critical evaluation of documents regarding the landscape’s transformations; - historical evaluation of the different aspects of the concurring events in a particular period; - critical analysis of the historical objects in relation with the transformation of the society and the culture. Following these three aspects the studies and the efforts will target to produce a huge investigation on architecture and landscape in the history (project, buildings, architectonical theories, territory, landscape and urban planning). Another specific aspect of the researches will be the analysis of the relation between the historical meaning of the territory’s changing and the territory itself (the elements that characterized the territory, in base on the Fonti; evaluation of the transformations in relation with the culture and society/s change). All the researches are related with the elements, that conventionally, have become the examples for reading the buildings and landscape facts (for buildings: its yard; the technique; the industrial archaeology and the actual organization of the industry in the territory – the urban space: the town; the districts; the urban park – the rural territory: the landscape; the infrastructures). The reading of buildings and landscape facts is fundamental to allow the critical - methodological tools and the patrimony of knowledge necessary for understanding of the historical events and consequently the motivation of the choices of project. So the laboratory is articulated in the followings sections of specialistic competence: - sources and archives for the historical investigation; - the building in the history; - history and landscape. Sources and archives for the historical investigation In this section it is studied the transformation of the urban landscape and the rural one. The two different landscapes are analyzed through the study of the sources and historical documents. They are precious tools for understanding the diachronic dynamic that have concerned them and their meaning in the present. The building in the history The section studies the building and its context, through the events that have marked its construction and its transformation during its “life”. History and landscape The laboratory on the base of the researches commissioned by “Regionale Lombarda”, “Provinciale di Milano”, “IReR”, “Parco dello Stelvio” and “Cariplo”, during these years, have studied and analyzed, at the different scales, the landscape through its relation with the territorial systems. The researches had focus on these particular aspects: 13 2 - the different meanings of the word landscape; - the graphical representation of the phenomena that characterize the landscape; - the problems concerning the traditional view of the matter; - the diachronic and historical research on the landscape and in particular the differences between this kind of research and the one regarding the architecture; - the discussion around the concepts of value, conservation, usability. In this moment, starting from the experience of these researches, is important to deepen the connection between past and future and between history of architecture and history of urban planning. For that the aim of the section is to succeed in reading of the historical events that have influenced the landscape and the territory. It is fundamental to link them with the cultural and social sphere for underlining the relations that join together the events themselves and the building with the territorial systems. The history becomes the tool for understanding the actual situation of landscape.
