The Unit of Research in Fashion and Textile Design, the last originated into INDACO Department takes care in cross-sectional and multidisciplinary way of the activities research for Fashion and, in particular, all that regards “Body” and the “space” around it. Fashion and Textile Design, in research and in study at Politecnico, however, does not mean to design fashion or to master skills related to tailoring: it means to deal with the “fashion product system” project as a whole. The typical design project is not approached in the way a traditional fashion designer would, but considers the fashion product as the “space” of the body, an object characterized by a performance and utility, apart from the symbolic and cultural values it conveys. The fashion product system consists not only of garments, but comprises the line as a whole, the packaging, accessories, events and the ways these products are made known. Made in Italy is synonymous of tradition, committment and attention on Italian Products, from food to wellness, with a particular interested to textile and clothing sector. Today, however, it’s necessary to face the new conditions of social and cultural changes, consumer and economic changes, due to the introduction of new information and communication technologies, to globalization of commercial transactions, to the most increasing importance of the “intellectual capital” and of the “knowledge” compared with the possession of instrumental assets. Design and Research of fashion objects is the topic of a deepen re-reading of the “creative”, productive and distributive methods, which are increasingly far from italian tailor-made tradition. Fashion and Textile Reserach Unit has a strong attention to the analysis and the research of a widen “Design Culture”, typical of the other sectors historically investigated by Design, and It is faced by a group of Researchers, Lecturers, Designers, trained in different disciplines, able to comprehend Time sense, to scientificly attend on every level of the design process, dedicated to the fashion products, concerning productive, creative, distributive and communicative fields. The group purpose, during the first period of the constitution of the Research Unit has been to create a relationship between the integrate system of design activities and processes, codified in an implicit way from fashion sector, and the design processes, codified from other design oriented sectors. At the same time there has been a particolar attention to the analysis of the instruments that fashion developed in its “praxis”, appearently not ruled by a linear design process. The analysis involved the deepening of the visualization and rappresentation methods of “fashion product” and the relapses that these instruments have on the project. The UdRD Fashion & Textile is active on the following research lines: - Fashion in Processes_research area involved in the development of methodologies of research tools and projects concerning Fashion Design. - Jewel Design_research area involvend in the topics concerning the Jewel as an accessory. Peer Review - Department of Industrial Design, Arts, Communication and Fashion (INDACO) 125 - Textile Design_research area involved in the topics concerning textile themes for clothing and furniture. - Communication&Retail Design_research area involved in the topics concerning the visualization steps for a fashion oriented product.
