Light The research activity line on Lighting Design focus on lighting product and lighting installation, with respect to interior and exterior spaces, human perception, ergonomics of vision, wellness and energy savings. In detail we lead applied researches on Light and Color Design and on the integrations between these two aspects for perceptual Design. In detail the activities regard: - research on lighting design and luminaries and fixtures design; - Photometric, gonio-photometric, video- photometric measurement and luminance, spectral, radiometric, reflectance, color measurement; - On-site measurement for lighting and color testing; - Luminous sources champion; - Thermal verifications and dielectric rigidity on luminaries. Colour The activity of research developed by the Colour line of research is divided into the following themes: - the chromatic component as element of qualification, identity and recognizability of the urban territory; - aspects connected with management and planning of colour on urban scale; - the chromatic component in public spaces; - aspects connected with “project” of the colour to improve users psychophysical wellbeing. The growing awareness of the importance of the chromatic aspect in architectural and environmental ambit, has been transformed, also in Italy, in higher attention towards all the project aspects of the urban colour; the first results of such attention regard the instrument of plans of colour. Plans of colour compiled till now have been, so far, useful urban tools directed to recover the tones, materials and original manifacturing techniques of ancient buildings, to guarantee their maintenance and preservation; such tools contribute to define a coherent image of the city. The research carried out aim is to underline how, with a useful and lively debate, such tools have traced a first reflection as regards a method of analysis and intervention referred exclusively to historical contexts, by omitting the manifold modifications employed by the city. Research investigates and considers a wider and wider group of factors and elements which contribute to define the chromatic image of the city, such as shop windows, signs, furnishings, etc. The increasing interest towards those factors which may contribute to improve the environmental quality of public spaces has directed its attention, also in Italy, on the necessity of a more and more widespread and effective use of the colour. The research faces the problems about how to “design” the colour to improve the users psychophysical wellbeing, with the aim to provide users with useful methodology information, tested and repeatable about the usage of colour in public places.
