April 15 through April 19, 2013
ARATA CAMPUS, via Scalabrini 113,
Politecnico di Milano, Piacenza
A special urban design workshop is planned to begin on Monday April 15 and continue through Friday April 19, 2013.
This event will take place on the Piacenza campus located within the ex-slaughterhouse on Via Scalabrini.
The weeklong seminar is part of the internationalization program of Architecture School of Politecnico di Milano that began some years ago at this campus, and intends to strengthen the already vibrant and internationally diverse population of students and professors of the Corsi di Studio in Architettura Ambientale (undergraduate) and the Master in Sustainable Architecture of Multi Scale Project (master of science). For the above-mentioned five
days the Arata Campus will host 200 students of the Ecole Nationale Superieure di Marseille, coordinated by the visiting professor Hervé Dubois, with collaboration of another eight professors and five tutors also from the University in Marseille.
Parallel to this workshop (which concludes on Friday with a closing ceremony that includes the delivery of the participatory certificates witnessed by the international jury) the Piacenza Campus of Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with the Order of the Architects, has organized three evening conferences. Monday, April 15th, the first conference, supported by the DASTU department, will be held at the Urban Center. Tuesday and Wednesday, April 16th and 17th respectively, the conferences, supported by Banca di Piacenza, will be held at the grand Palazzo Galli. The objective of the evening events is to deepen the urban design discussion architecturally, socially, and economically, related to the requalification of public space. As an additional initiative, and to continue the sustainable experience started in Milan, the Arata Campus is hosting a ‘call for project’ (competition) that is open to the students of both the Architecture and Society school of Politecnico di Milano and the Ecole Nationale Superieure di Marseille. The competition project will be a landscape design module taken from the open green area within of the Arata Campus.
