Insurance of foreign workers and safety

Foreign citizens working for the Politecnico di Milano with a subordinated employment contract are insured against accidents at work, as are permanent employees, by INAIL (Industrial Injury Compensation Board) which provides the service “on behalf of the State”.

Furthermore, Visiting Professors employed by the Politecnico also have personal liability insurance coverage, which includes all the risks related to teaching and complementary coverage for damage to third parties, including students and university staff.

Coverage includes:

  • civil liability towards third persons for personal injury and material damage deriving from accidental events occurring during the work of the insured party;
  • civil liability towards workers subject to INAIL contributions for personal injury suffered by these workers during performance of the duties for which they are responsible while employed by the insured party;
  • guarantee provided with reference to decree 38/2000 which also covers “personal injury”.

Visiting Professors who work at the Politecnico as self-employed workers are insured against accidents at work. The coverage is valid for the whole period that they work at the University, and is extended to occasions when they work outside the University, including risks when travelling; travel risk (injury due to road accidents when travelling from home to work and back); risks of road travel incurred during work performed outside the facilities of the insured party, for missions ordered by the insured party.

The insurance policy is paid by the Department.
