Overview of Lecco Campus

polo di Lecco

The Lecco Campus was founded in 1997 upon collaboration between the University and territorial bodies to satisfy the need for, in a highly industrial area with great employment potential, a university campus able to increase and drive collective growth through research and technological development.

The Lecco Campus offers a distinctly high level of education that encourages integration with the territory in terms of both the uniqueness of the entrepreneurial fabric and the campus' own research initiatives. The study programmes, consistently with the process of expansion and diversification underway at the Politecnico di Milano, have been devised to offer a valuable and structured academic opportunity, some of them unique to the Politecnico, that is fully integrated in the system and includes specific degree programmes and research projects.

The Lecco Campus offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programmes in the mechanical, industrial and building (building, architectural and civil engineering) fields. The Master of Science courses are held entirely in English and fall under the internationalisation project "Formare ingegneri stranieri in Italia" (Produce foreign engineers in Italy), an initiative that was set up on the back of a collaboration between the University, the ICE (The National Institute of Foreign Affairs), Unioncamere and the Lecco and Como Chambers of Commerce. This project aims to train highly specialised students with considerable exposure to technology and the Italian entrepreneurial and managerial culture whilst training them in an international, multi-ethnic environment.

PoloSportivo is also unique to Lecco: inspired by the Anglo-Saxon university model and interpreted on a local scale as the importance of sports to university life, making the most of what the territory has to offer and of the Lecco sporting tradition. Thanks to various agreements and collaborations the Lecco Campus is able to offer its students a wide and varied range of sports across the board www.sport.lecco.polimi.it.

The new university campus

By the end of November 2012 the new University Campus of the Politecnico di Milano in Lecco will be completed: 40,000 sqm of highly energy-efficient space destined to teaching and research activities, scientific and cultural spaces, laboratories and offices for technological transfers. A building will also be built to welcome students with 200 beds, common areas, a gymnasium, internet point, music room and games room.
